After the "big" urban SUV T-Roc, Volkswagen has
released the smallest T-Cross. Small but strong, as demonstrated by our tests.
It now comes in large numbers on the second-hand market. So, smaller, so
cheaper? A good deal this T-Cross? It remains to be seen ...
Our first tests of the Volkswagen T-Cross date from March
2019. It is now almost 9 months that it is marketed. Arrived almost a year and
a half after the T-Roc, which was a big urban SUV, straddling the category of
compact SUV, it is much smaller, and therefore clearly belongs, this time, to
the first-mentioned.
Competitor of the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 or Citroën C3
Aircross, he arrives late in this category yet very popular. But by bringing
together the best of what is being done?
Certainly not perfect, it brings together indeed a lot of
qualities. It is very livable for its size and offers a volume of an
interesting chest. It has advanced technological equipment, worthy of the
higher categories, but makes them pay, of course. Its level of comfort is
satisfactory, it's soundproofing successful, and its road behavior is very
reassuring.
That said, it's quality finish is not unanimous. It's more
cheerful in terms of presentation, but the materials are harder than usual. And
with, as we said, quite high prices at the start and even more with the
high-tech options, that makes it difficult to find its place in a fierce
competition.
